For children, moving means leaving familiar routines before new ones are in place. Preparation and a predictable rhythm can make the day easier.
Explain what will change
Show the new neighbourhood, future bedroom and route to school. A calendar can make the sequence easier to understand.
Give them an age-appropriate role
Younger children can decorate a box or choose items to keep close. Older children can label their room and prepare a personal bag.
Keep the day safe
When possible, have one adult stay with children away from the main moving route. Keep meals and bedtime close to the usual routine.
